Rabies is an infectious disease and can be transmitted to humans; in Spain vaccination against rabies is OBLIGATORY for dogs and recommended (although not obligatory) for cats and ferrets.

In Madrid the booster is ANUAL, despite being a disease declared as eradicated in Spain since 1977, cases are still being detected due to the proximity of the peninsula to North Africa, where rabies is an endemic disease.

Primary vaccination can be administered at the age of 3 months, puppies must be identified with a microchip previously.
